2024's Final Development Update

Hello my dear Prominence enjoyers!! I'm Nicole (or ElocinDev), creator and developer of the pack :) this blog post aims to give a bit more info on what's coming in the near and kind of far future.

* This is specifically for Prominence RPG, not Classic.

2024 has been an awesome year and I've worked a lot (thousands of hours between development and playing the pack), enjoyed every single moment. I'm glad this pack has grew millions of downloads and reached the 5M download milestone before the year ended.

Anyway, thank you for playing! ❤️ and I hope you're enjoying the pack as much as I enjoy creating it. My goals for 2025 are to finish Hasturian Era and write a lot more public lore for those who are interested :D

Before spoling things, I do want to say that these updates are coming in 2025. I know I know, I'm sorry but I want to enjoy the holidays lol, so if you're craving for Orion you'll have to wait a bit more! And I hope you do enjoy the holidays too!

A General Rundown: What's coming

Making v3.0 was really time consuming but I enjoyed it a lot. Since Hasturian Era released, a lot of issues have come by or things that are lacking, and I've been working on fixing those as quick as I can without going mad lol

So here I'll be showing you what I the next few updates will feature (if everything goes well), although this won't be final changes and it's just what's being worked on, it's very likely that this is going to be final, although more things might come in between. It's order on priority, but some things might release before others.

1. 📖 Quests & In-Game Explanations

This is my top priority for the next updates, and is expanding further the quests to explain things that players often ask in the discord or information that is solely available in the wiki.

Starting with something that should've been before: a guide for the end's eyes. It's something that I've really halted on and should've implemented with v3.0.0 but ended up not having enough time to.

Then another important questline will be about how to build yourself. Currently some gear such as the Warden Armor or Netherite-Diamond gear is considered the "noob trap", as it only gives a lot of armor making it just good for tanks, but inexperienced players will see that it has a lot of armor so they'll go for it. This questline will introduce explanations on how to build yourself, how does scaling work, how stats work, and a showcase of all special tier of armors (such as Titan's Shroud) which serve a specific purpose for certain build types. This will hopefully be easier for players to understand what armor to pursue while playing, and have as a guide to

2. 🔮 Enchantment Limits

I want to introduce a limit to enchanting, not the process, but the result. Why? Well, as of now the enchanting system is great but I feel like it doesn't require much thought. It's just minmaxing and getting a whole list of enchantments which are generally the same because they're just good.

So instead of having a list of 40 meta enchantments that go in every weapon possible, once introduced certain tiers will have an enchantment limit. This will make builds have a bit more of uniqueness, as you'll want to get the best enchantments for your build while being inside the limit.

The tiers go as below, with higher tiers having a higher enchant limit:

  1. Artifact Weapons
  2. Primordial Items (what the hell is this??? 👀👀👀🤫🤫)
  3. Unique Weapons and Special Armor
  4. "Netherite Tier" weapons and armors
  5. The rest of equipment

I have not fully decided the enchantment limit for each, so I will not yet say anything. And while this might be sad for some, I feel like it's for the best! And will certainly make builds more interesting.

3. 🌌 Orion, The Hunter: Archer's Artifact Weapon

Yes! Yes! I know everyone has been asking this since artifact weapons released over a year ago. And while I admit I halted it a little, it's still quite the hard weapon to make as I want it to have a really nice design. (and also 3D modeled bows are reaaally annoying)

With its current design the abilities cannot be made using Spell Engine, so a lot of hacky solutions must be made first. But it's certainly a priority before v3.1, as this update will be v3.0.30.

Orion's Concept & Design

I wouldn't normally do this with an indev artifact but I want to show you guys how its concept art is going. The model is not fully finished yet so this is just a sketch of some sorts.

First concept with in-game representation for its size.

Second concept of the nebula coverage.

As you can see, its design is clearly based on the Orion constellation, and specifically the famous Orion Belt.

The weapon will be very focused on emissive textures and astral-themed animations, with its background design having representations of the Flame Nebula and the Horsehead Nebula, which are next to the Alnitak star on Orion's belt. Although as you can see, yes, it is inverted. This is done on purpose so it fits a bit more the model.

As for the abilities, I won't spoil anything yet. I do want to reassure that even though this is astral themed, it won't be using any astral magic and will scale solely from ranged damage.

4. 🌋 Cinderstone Shaders

Yes, a shaderpack specifically for Prominence is being worked on.

While I initially considered Hysteria to be Prominence's official shaderpack (due to the end's feature being a direct lore element from Prominence), I still don't find THAT fitting because it's too dark. (and yeah Hasturian Era is dark, but that level of spookiness belongs in Fear Nightfall instead)

This shaderpack will be mostly RPG themed, very inspired by SpacEagle17's Euphoria Patches (he might also be involved in its development too!) and also adding a lot of lore elements for Prominence. With the help of Shotokhan for adding full modded support to ALL mods in Prominence.

It will be available publicly for everyone in CurseForge, so you will be able to use it in your own modpack, but most features are Prominence-related so it might be a bit off.

Feature Rundown

1. Lore Elements

Okay so of course while I'm developing Orion I will be focusing on the astronomical side of Prominence too. This means that the sky will have the own original lore elements from Prominence.

An example of this is the Betelgeuse Remnant in the Orion constellation, while in real life Betelgeuse is still a bright star in the sky, in the Prominence universe this star has long gone supernova and a remnant is on its place instead.

Along this, a hint towards someone, someone evil, that you'll eventually meet.

2. The Night Sky

The night sky is a recreation of what you would see in real life with your own eyes. So you can see the milky way and familiar constellations, just with Prominence's own astronomical things on top. This also features a light pollution system so the sky's visibility will depend on the amount of nearby light from sources or the moon's phase.

3. Full Support for modded items, blocks and entities.

All of Prominence will be supported by Cinderstone, from items to blocks to entities, everything! The idea is to have it be the perfect shader to play with a seamless experience, good performance, and of course fitting lore elements so it's even more immersive. This will also be the best shaderpack choice for the Cinderstone Depths and the City of Vaaz, as they'll have special support too.

5. 💴 The Prominence Seasonal Battle Pass

A new battlepass introducing 100 rewards, with free tiers and a seasonal tier that costs $9.99!

Artifact Skins

New looks for your artifacts obtained in the battle pass' rewards! Okay that's the end of the joke, i'm kidding, i'm not adding a battlepass. Unless…

Skibidi Toilet Collaboration

Okay sorry I'll stop.

5. 🔥 The Cinderstone Depths Update

The long awaited v3.1.0, the update where you'll meet S'kellak, the update where i'm gonna lose my mind!!!

Okay yes this update isn't close to release, as it's even bigger than v3.0.0, but a lot of progress is being made and even though it is the lowest priority in this list, it's still obviously the biggest update, I just need the others to release first so you guys don't die out of boredom. (And if I released the other features along this it'd be 4.0.0 at this point lol)

While I wish to share images of the progress, it's still mostly bare bones and the city is empty without NPCs. I will though make a future blog post showing a lot of stuff and possibly making another round of beta tester applications ;)

💫 A Final Message

Again, thank you. 2024 has been the best year I've ever had and I just hope 2025 to be even better. It makes me proud to see Prominence grow and getting closer and closer of what I want it to be.

Thanks to all the people that contributed to it, artists that i've commissioned, testers that broke the pack too many times, players that reported bugs, builders that have been shaping Vaaz, and of course, you for playing the modpack and hopefully enjoying it as much as I enjoy making it.

I hope you all have great and happy holidays! See you in 2025, S'kellak awaits you then.

Feel free to comment here below, I'll read it! :)
